Description:

Paint a good sky and you are half way to having a good landscape. This part of a watercolour painting can be the most tricky to get right and lack of confidence usually leads to poor application and drying lines in the middle of your sky. We will start by covering a range of techniques for painting skies, and very importantly the most common mistakes made and how you can avoid them. From simple graduated skies, to ways of painting soft and crisp clouds and working up to those all important sunsets and sunrises. Includes my fail safe method for adjusting and re-working your sky several times… without it showing! Add cloud shadows, orange streaks at sundown and more. All types of sky will be looked at and you will increase your knowledge of colour mixing and application techniques. It is the sky that makes a landscape and this day is dedicated to improving this important area.

Suitable For:

Beginners and advanced: Whatever your level, if you feel your skies could be better, this is the course for you. Watercolour Skies

Description:

Pique Assiette describes a method of mosaic making using broken crockery, beads, mirrors, shells and many other found items. The results are charming and a special object that has broken can be given a new lease of life.

Part one -  Starting with a talk about materials and methods then moving onto design principles. We will be making one or more small mosaics on a shaped wooden base.

Part two -  Working on last week's mosaics I will show you the two stage grouting and finishing process.

By the end of the day you should be well on the way to having one if not more beautiful mosaic panels to display in your home or give as gifts.  Please note that there may be finishing off/grouting to do at home, due to drying time constraints of grout, paint and so on, but you will be shown how to do this, and given an instruction sheet to help you.

Suitable for: Complete beginners are welcome as are people with previous mosaic experience.

Health and Safety: Working with broken pieces of crockery, ceramic tile etc can be hazardous, the pieces are sharp. There is a small danger of minor cuts and scratches. The chances of mishap are hugely reduced by listening carefully to the safety advice that will be given to you at the start of and during the workshop, and adhering to it strictly. In order to safeguard you further we will not be breaking or cutting tiles or glass, the pieces are already prepared. Neither the tutor nor the venue are responsible for any injuries sustained. Listen to the advice and you will be perfectly safe.
