Description:

Would you like to start painting in watercolours? Perhaps you simply have no idea know where to start or even which brush you should use, let alone any idea what type of paper you should be painting on or how to apply the paint!  If that set of watercolours your kids bought you for Xmas is still in the drawer with the cellophane wrapper on or you haven't painted since school then this course will get you started. The first hour will be spent looking at the materials you need and how to prepare your paper like the professionals do. The second hour will be spent practicing basic techniques and during the third hour we will start you off on your new hobby with a go at some simple painting from photographic images.

Suitable For:

The out of practice, the terrified and the 'I have no idea where to start!'  By the end of the session you will have a relaxing and enjoyable new hobby.

During this day we will be looking at the two main types of ink pen used with watercolour. In the morning we will be using liner pens to draw a harbour/coastal scene and add loose watercolour washes. In the afternoon we will move on to more intimate drawings of boats up close. For this second part of the day we will be using old fashioned dip pens and ink, looking at using water to dilute the ink as part of the paintings. These can be kept as a tonal study or colour can be added where needed. Advice will be given on using the different types of inks and pens, paper types and the best way of applying the watercolours on top.

We will cover a range of techniques for painting skies, and very importantly the most common mistakes made and how you can avoid them. We will look at paint mixing, and the importance of understanding how colours are formed. Never again will you accidently find green in your sunset!  From simple graduated skies, to different techniques for painting clouds and working up to those all important sunsets and sunrises. Includes my fail safe method for adjusting and re-working your sky several times… without it showing!  You will learn to avoid drying marks and pale, uninteresting skies, instead making a dramatic, colourful sky the backdrop to your painting. It is the sky that makes a landscape and this day is dedicated to improving this important area.

Suitable For:

Beginners or improvers: If you want to get better at painting skies this will give you the techniques you need to see real improvement.. Watercolour Skies
