More details for half day courses...

PORTRAITS IN CHARCOAL AND CONTE ON COLOURED PAPER

Description:

This half day course is a chance to practice getting a likeness in the versatile medium of charcoal. Working on coloured paper and using traditional charcoal sticks, with white Conte crayon for highlights we will be looking at building up an accurate portrait. We will discuss grids and guidelines as an accurate way of drawing a face, then use light and darks in broad areas before finally putting in detail.

Please bring a large sheet of coloured cartridge or pastel paper, plus charcoal sticks, a white conte crayon and a hard rubber. Baby wipes are recommended for keeping the hands clean whilst working. Subject supplied, or bring your own photo, but please ensure it is large and of good definition.

BOTANICAL DRAWING IN COLOURED PENCILS

Description:

Coloured pencils have undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, pigment levels have been increased and they now give vibrant, beautiful results. The controllability of pencils is perfect for the slow build up of botanical work. We will be working from real plants and flowers in order to capture all the details of this beautiful subject.

Please bring good quality coloured pencils and a large piece of white cartridge paper. You may also bring blending and burnishing tools if you own them but this is optional.

WATERCOLOUR BUTTERFLIES AND FLOWERS

Description:

For this lovely subject we will be taking several different photos and combining them to make an attractive piece of work. We will look at possibilities for using vignette and ‘soft focus’ backrounds to set off the butterflies and their blooms. Subjects like this make a good basis for printing your own greetings cards; they also make a lovely gift.

Please bring a soft pencil, putty rubber, watercolour paper (preferably stretched or on a block) and your usual watercolours and brushes. Watercolour pencils are also very useful for this subject. Subject supplied,or bring your own photos.

HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR ART ON THE INTERNET

Description:

This business based course is a short introduction for those who want to promote their artwork online but are unsure how to do it. Whether you want to chat with new artistic contacts, sell your art online or gain followers on social media it is necessary to learn a few simple tricks and understand what engages people, and conversely what makes them scroll past without a second glance. The internet is the future and these days galleries contact you by email, people use hashtags to find and follow their favourite artists and tutors on Twitter, business contacts use Facebook and many arts and crafts are sold online every day. But these things don’t happen by accident and you may have been disappointed by results you have had so far. With the popularity of the internet comes the downside – scammers, con artists and money launderers. Let me show you how to avoid being taken for a ride, whilst making the most of the wonderful opportunities that the online world offers artists.

All you need to bring for this course is a biro, a notepad and enthusiasm.
