Demonstrations and Workshops

If you are interested in my visiting your organisation or club for demonstrations, workshops or community projects please read on for details of what I can offer you, how to book and prices:

The amount of these I can do per year is limited,  I am not usually available on a Friday or Saturday as I teach my regular classes, but there are occasional dates when I can fit these in, particularly in school holidays.  Occasionally I can do an evening session. Demonstrations are usually of Watercolour Techniques, but I can tailor the session to your needs.  After many years of refusing to do demos where I stand and paint at an easel  (as I usually paint flat, taking many hours over one painting) I now do these as I got so many requests and so much positive feedback.  I usually paint a simple landscape, explaining the process of painting, the pigments chosen and techniques used. For workshops/one-off classes we can do any subject you choose.

Botanical Flower Painting Workshop

Here are my rates for 2017 and by looking at the options below you should be able to accurately estimate how much it will cost:

£35 per hour for 3 hours or less OR
£25 per hour for 4 hours or longer
Plus my materials (this is only a small amount, generally no more than £10 and may not be anything if I am teaching and students are using their own stuff)
Optional: Any student materials supplied by myself at cost
Plus 50 pence per mile petrol/vehicle wear (round trip), as estimated by google maps. No petrol charge for my home town (Sudbury, Suffolk) and up to 5 miles outside it.

Notes about calculating times:

Please add one hour to the length of the workshop, to include half an hour set up and clear up times at the beginning and end. Any breaks or lunchtimes are included in the time, as I cannot usefully use this time for other work, but I am always happy to chat to the participants during this time and answer informal questions.

I am often asked to demonstrate Watercolour techniques at an easel. Whilst I can do this, watercolour is fluid and wet, its success is reliant upon controlling the amount and flow of water, an easel makes this much harder! I realise people need to see, and will use an easel if you don't have a camera and screen set up of some kind so I can work flat. I am happy to use an easel if working on a painting, however if you choose my watercolour techniques demonstration I will need to work flat, as many techniques are troublesome to say the least when at a 90 degree angle. I can also use a microphone if you provide one, although I am quite good at projecting my voice!

Community Projects

I am happy to consider community projects, please contact me with full details, and we can discuss the options. I have taught 3 year olds, elderly people in residential care, and every age in between. I also have experience of teaching those with physical and mental disability as well as those with mental health issues. For your peace of mind I am CRB checked, I can also supply art materials if required. Please note I do not currently teach Oil Painting.
