**NEW FOR SUMMER '10 - ONE DAY COURSES HELD AT GAINSBOROUGH'S HOUSE

27th July 2010 ‘WATERCOLOUR TIPS AND TECHNIQUES’

Suitable for: Beginners, or anyone who struggles to control or understand Watercolour.
You will learn: Real techniques you can apply to your paintings. No subject for this class; simply a whole day spent trying out techniques on pre-cut pieces of Watercolour paper. Each technique will be demonstrated, and then you will do it yourself. At the end of the day we will bind the samples into a little booklet for you to take away and refer to in the future. From the simplest flat washes through to mixed media techniques and clever tricks this is simply the most popular and useful course I teach on Watercolours!

10th August 2010 ‘BOTANICAL WATERCOLOURS’ (in the gardens)

Suitable for: Anyone interested in a more detailed approach to painting Watercolours.
You will learn: Which materials to use, how to correct mistakes, and keep the pristine look of your paper. Techniques studied include glazing and blending. We will also look in detail at mixing accurate, interesting, non-muddy greens. If it’s sunny we will be painting in the beautiful garden of Gainsborough’s House, in case of rain we will work in the Hills Room from still life botanical objects and flowers.

24th August 2010 ‘WATERCOLOUR SKIES’

Suitable for: Anyone who wants to paint fabulous Watercolour skies.
You will learn: A range of techniques for painting skies, and very importantly the most common mistakes made and how you can avoid them. From simple graduated skies, to ways of painting clouds and working up to those all important sunsets and sunrises. Includes my fail safe method for adjusting and re-working your sky several times… without it showing! It is the sky that makes a landscape and this day is dedicated to improving this important area.

Each day costs £42 and includes paper, for beginners I have put together a pack of starter materials you can purchase for these courses. For more details and a no obligation booking form please email me via the contact page, or telephone for details!

REGULAR CLASSES

SATURDAY MORNINGS: 10.30am to 12.00pm - At the STEVENSON CENTRE, Great, Cornard, Sudbury. Price £8 per week.

During school term time, a class for Adults, in painting and drawing. Working mainly in Watercolour, but other media such as Pastels and Line and Wash are occasionally explored. All levels including complete beginners are welcome. Places are booked per term, but newcomers can try out a single class at anytime, without obligation (subject to availability.)

*** Please note this class is currently fully booked. To place yourself on the waiting list please email me your name, address and contact info and I will notify you when a place becomes free. This does not obligate you in any way to take the place when it comes up. I will also mail you about any additional classes/courses I run during the year.

PRIVATE TUITION

If you do not wish or are unable to attend a group class, private tuition tailored to your needs is possible. The price for this is £21 per hour, and you will need to come to Sudbury. Occasionally I am available to travel to the elderly or disabled, petrol costs will be charged. Private tuition costs need not be prohibitive, it is possible to achieve much progress with as little as one session per month, with 'homework' given in between should you wish.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

I am happy to consider community projects, please contact me with full details, and I will email you my charges. I have taught 3 year olds, elderly people in residential care, and every age in between. For your peace of mind I am CRB checked, I can also supply art materials if required. Please note I do not currently teach Oil Painting.

DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS

I offer demonstrations and workshops, availability subject to other work commitments. Occasionally I can do an evening session. Demonstrations are usually of Watercolour techniques, but I can tailor the session to your needs.

NOTE TO ART GROUPS! I am often asked to demonstrate Watercolour techniques at an easel. Watercolour is fluid and wet, it's success is reliant on controlling the amount and flow of water, an easel makes this impossible! I realise people need to see, but if there are more people than can comfortably gather round a table, you will need to have a camera and screen set up of some kind so I can work flat.
